Common questions

What are the 2027 tax brackets?

The seven rates stay at 10%, 12%, 22%, 24%, 32%, 35% and 37%. Bloomberg Tax projects the income ranges will rise about 3.2%. For a single filer, the 12% bracket would run from $12,800 to $52,025; for a married couple filing jointly, from $25,600 to $104,050.

Which brackets do I use when I file my taxes in 2027?

The 2026 brackets. The return you file in early 2027 covers income earned in 2026. The 2027 brackets apply to income earned in 2027, which you report in early 2028, but they also set your paycheck withholding from January 2027.

What is the standard deduction for 2027?

Projected at $16,600 for single filers, $33,200 for married couples filing jointly and about $24,925 for heads of household.

When will the IRS announce the 2027 tax brackets?

The IRS usually publishes its inflation adjustments for the coming year in October or November. We will replace the projections on this page with the official figures the day they are released.

If I move into a higher bracket, is all my income taxed at that rate?

No. Each rate applies only to the slice of taxable income inside its bracket. Moving into a higher bracket raises the tax on the dollars above the line, not on the dollars below it.
